The Jets are paying the price for Aaron Rodgers’ injury — literally.
The team opted not to take out a disability insurance policy for Rodgers prior to the season, turning down multiple offers, according to Sportico.
The decision cost the team millions, per the outlet, as Rodgers tore his Achilles just four plays into his season debut during the Jets’ Week 1 “Monday Night Football ” win over the Bills, likely sidelining him for the rest of the season.
Rodgers, 39, and the Jets reworked his contract this past offseason, agreeing to a new two-year, fully guaranteed $75 million deal.
These types of insurance premiums, called temporary total disability policies, reimburse significant portions of players’ guaranteed salaries if they suffer injuries that compromise the players’ ability to play the rest of the season.
The cost of premiums varies on age, health and other factors.
The Jets were offered policies ranging from $1 million to $4 million, per the report, with the more expensive options covering roughly 60 percent, or $22 million, of Rodgers’ $37 million contract this year.
The Packers, with whom Rodgers spent the first 18 years of his career before the team traded him to the Jets this past offseason, routinely took out disability policies, according to Sportico.
The Jets did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
Rodgers has dealt with several other injuries in his career, including problems with his collarbone, foot and knee, among others.
The NBA and NHL require teams to take out these types of insurance policies on their highest-paid players, but MLB and the NFL leave it to the teams.
Rodgers has been steadfast in his goal to return this season, though it remains unlikely due to the severity of the injury.
“I wouldn’t put anything past him,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh said on Oct. 6. “Obviously, I think he gets stronger when people say you can’t, when people doubt him. I think he’s the type of guy that gets stronger and that’s why I like him so much because when someone tells me I can’t do something, well, watch me. It’s the same thing.
“He’s got that mindset where if someone tells him he’s not capable or something is impossible, he’s like, you’ll see. So no, I don’t put it past him.”
On the latest episode of “One Jets Drive,” which was released Thursday, Rodgers was seen walking without crutches.
