NextImg:Jets sign Allen Lazard to $44 million deal in Aaron Rodgers push

While the Jets are still waiting on a trade for Aaron Rodgers, they landed one of his favorite targets on Wednesday.

The team and free agent wide receiver Allen Lazard agreed to a four-year, $44 million contract, according to multiple reports.

Lazard played the first five years of his career with the Packers and with Rodgers as his quarterback.

Lazard has 169 career receptions for 2,236 yards and 20 touchdowns.

He is coming off his best statistical season when he had 60 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns in 2022.

We’ll now have to wait to see if Lazard’s arrival means Rodgers is also coming.

Lazard was a free agent that Rodgers hoped the Jets could sign.

But even without Rodgers in the equation, Lazard makes sense for the Jets, who are expected to release Corey Davis.

At 6-foot-5, Lazard will give whoever is throwing the ball for the Jets a big target and he also has a reputation as a good blocker, something that the Jets need with their running scheme.

New Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett also knows Lazard from his three years in the same position in Green Bay and surely gave the Jets input about signing him.

If Davis is released, as expected, the Jets wide receiver room currently has Lazard, Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore and Denzel Mims in it.

The Jets are also expected to pursue longtime Packers receiver Randall Cobb, another one of Rodgers’ favorites.

ESPN reported Rodgers would also like the Jets to sign Odell Beckham Jr., but there is no sign the Jets are pursuing him yet.
