NextImg:Jets’ second unit struggles against rookie Jayden Daniels in preseason opener

Three takeaways from the Jets’ 20-17 win over the Commanders on Saturday to start the preseason:

1. Joe Tippmann was the only Jets starter who played in Saturday’s preseason game.

That is a sign that, despite what they say, the Jets are concerned about his snaps.

Tippmann played the first two series against the Commanders and had no bad snaps.

It will be interesting to see if the Jets continue to play him in preseason situations where other starters are not in.

2. The Jets think they have a very strong running back room and the two rookies had good moments on Saturday.

Braelon Allen had runs of 24 and 16 yards and Isaiah Davis had a 24-yard reception.

The two rookies could be nice complementary pieces to Breece Hall.

3. The Jets did not use any defensive starters, but their second unit should have looked better against Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

They got carved up on an 11-play, 70-yard drive that included a 42-yard completion by Daniels.

Expectations are high for the Jets starting defense, but depth is a question.
