Half of the mysterious puzzle that was the Jets’ center-quarterback exchange has been solved.
The Jets re-signed three-year starting center Connor McGovern on Monday, which was 40 days after free agency began and three days before the start of the 2023 NFL Draft.
So, McGovern will be snapping the ball to … well, that part is still unknown as the Jets and Packers haggle over the trade package for Aaron Rodgers.
But re-signing McGovern, who was ranked as the No. 10 center in the NFL last season by Pro Football Focus, has opened up some options.
It was thought that the Jets could use one of their two second-round picks — No. 42 and No. 43 — on a top center like Minnesota’s John Michael Schmitz or Wisconsin’s Joe Tippman, but now a plug-and-play starter is not necessary.
One of those second-rounders also could be part of a finalized trade for Rodgers.
