The Jets will be without their top special teams player for more than a month.
Justin Hardee, who went to the Pro Bowl last year, had surgery to repair an injured hamstring Friday and will miss the next 4-6 weeks, a source confirmed.
Hardee injured the hamstring in the team’s 31-21 victory over the Broncos last Sunday then aggravated the injury in practice Wednesday.
The Jets will place Hardee on injured reserve.
This is a major blow for the special teams units, since Hardee plays on all of them, most notably on punt coverage, which has been severely weakened.
Hardee, who is a team captain, is one of the best gunners in football.

The Jets are already without their other gunner, Brandin Echols, who will miss his second game on Sunday due to a hamstring injury.
The Hardee injury is the latest for a team that has dealt with its share of serious injuries already this season.
They lost quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Week 1 to a torn Achilles then their top offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker was lost for the year last week after tearing his Achilles.
The Jets face the Eagles on Sunday before they have a bye week.
