The Jets started off Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft by making a rare trade with the rival Patriots.

The Jets traded a fourth-round pick (112 overall) to New  England in exchange for a fourth-round pick (120) and a sixth-rounder (184).

The Jets now have four total picks on Day 3 of the draft.

This is not the first time the two rivals engaged in a draft day trade with Joe Douglas as the GM.

The two made a deal during the 2020 draft, too.

They also made an in-season trade in 2019 for wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.

The Patriots received a sixth-round pick in exchange.

The Patriots used the 112th pick to draft Maryland kicker Chad Ryland, who connected on 19-of-23 field goals in his lone season at Maryland after transferring from Eastern Michigan.

The trade between the Jets and Patriots came just two days after New England traded around the Jets and allowed the Steelers to move up to pick No. 14 — one slot ahead of the Jets, following their Aaron Rodgers trade and pick swap with the Packers — to select Ohio State offensive lineman Broderick Jones.

That gave the Steelers an offensive lineman to protect second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett, while the Jets needed to wait until the next day to select Wisconsin center Joe Tippmann in the second round.

Following the Steelers trade with the Patriots, and Pittsburgh’s choice to select Jones, the Jets took Iowa State edge rusher Will McDonald at No. 15.
