Jeff Ulbrich is the president of the Quincy Williams fan club.
The Jets’ defensive coordinator thinks so highly of Williams, he believes nobody in the sport is playing better at his position.
“I would challenge everyone here and elsewhere that there’s not a better [line]backer in the NFL right now,” Ulbrich said Thursday. “He is playing at an elite level in my opinion, and it’s just so exciting to see for the young man, because he’s a guy who just works so hard at it. It’s so important to him.”
High praise.
In four games, Williams has a team-high 39 tackles, four tackles for loss and four passes defensed.
He is ranked as Pro Football Focus’ third-best inside linebacker and has a 90.2 grade in coverage, the best in the league according to the analytics website.
“All the accolades, as well as he’s playing, it’s not by accident,” Ulbrich said. “The kid is working his ass off.”
The brother of star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, the Jets picked up the 27-year-old Quincy Williams off waivers from the Jaguars in September 2021.
He received a three-year, $18 million contract extension in March.
That deal is looking wise now.
