Once Dalvin Cook joined the Jets, it left one less spot in the running back room for the team’s young group.
Zonovan “Bam” Knight ultimately ended up the casualty with the team releasing him Monday in advance of Tuesday’s roster deadline, The Post’s Brian Costello confirmed.
Teams have to set their 53-man roster by 4 p.m. ET, although moves can still be made post-cuts.
Knight seemingly won’t be without work for long with NFL Network reporting teams checked in with the Jets about Knight, indicating he should be claimed on waivers.
Cook’s arrival put Knight in the crosshairs for a potential cut since the team already has Breece Hall and Michael Carter ahead of him on the depth chart, along with 2023 fifth-round draft pick Israel Abanikanda.
Knight had a solid showing last year after signing with the Jets as an undrafted free agent following his collegiate career with North Carolina State.
The 22-year-old appeared in seven games and tallied 300 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, while also hauling in 13 passes for 100 yards.
Knight had a strong start to his career when he rushed for 71, 90 and 69 yards against the Bills, Vikings and Bears, respectively, in his first three games.
His effectiveness waned after that hot start with Knight rushing 39 times for 70 yards — a paltry 1.79 yards per carry — across his final four games.
That included six rushes for negative two yards Dec. 22 in the 19-3 loss to the Jaguars.

Knight did not perform well against the Buccaneers in the team’s third preseason game, and his status as an undrafted free agent worked against him as the Jets used draft capital on Carter and Abanikanda.
He now waits to see if any team will claim him and give him another chance.
