The Jets will sign kicker Austin Seibert and have him on their 53-man roster for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys with Greg Zuerlein downgraded to out, according to NFL Network.
Seibert was one of the four kickers the Jets worked out Friday — along with Ty Long, Caleb Shudak and Matthew Wright — after head coach Robert Saleh revealed that Zuerlein sustained the injury Thursday and wouldn’t practice that day.
“It’s not serious,” Saleh said, “but serious enough to bring this game in question.”
At that point, Saleh said Zuerlein was “50/50” for the game Sunday, but that status changed from questionable to out one day later.
Seibert kicked in three games for the Lions last season, connecting on three of his five field goals and converting all 12 of his extra points.
The 26-year-old was a fifth-round pick by the Browns in the 2019 NFL Draft, and he has also appeared in games for the Bengals — four in 2020 — in addition to his opportunities with the Bengals and Lions.
