Jessica Pegula has dominated her way toward a chance at redemption.
The American star breezed past Barbora Krejcikova 6-3, 6-3 in the U.S. Open quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon at Arthur Ashe Stadium. No. 4 Pegula will next face No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals after Sabalenka’s opponent, Marketa Vondrousova, withdrew from their quarterfinal match on Tuesday.
Sabalenka defeated Pegula 7-5, 7-5, in last year’s U.S. Open final, spoiling Pegula’s chance to win the first Grand Slam of her career. It was also the first time Pegula reached the final of a Grand Slam — and first time she ever made it past a quarterfinal.
Pegula, 31, is still waiting to capture her first Grand Slam. To do so, she gets another crack at toppling Sabalenka.
