Jerry Seinfeld is setting the record straight.

The comedian chimed in after an explosive report from Rolling Stone accused Jimmy Fallon of creating a toxic work environment at The Tonight Show. The exposé included multiple instances of Fallon drinking on the job and berating employees. But Seinfeld took issue with one such anecdote that mentioned that he was present, saying their account was an “idiotic twisting of events.”

According to two employees, there was an “uncomfortable” incident while taping with Seinfeld where Fallon allegedly “scolded” someone who was in charge of the cue cards during a segment.

“It was very awkward, and Jerry [Seinfeld] was like, ‘You should apologize to him,’ almost trying to make it a joke,” a former employee told Rolling Stone. “It was one of the strangest moments ever and so many people were there, so it’s kind of hard to forget.”

Seinfeld issued a statement to the publication after the report was published, denying their account of the events.

“This is so stupid. I remember this moment quite well… I teased Jimmy about a flub, and we all had a fun laugh about how rarely Jimmy is thrown off,” he said. “It was not uncomfortable at all. Jimmy and I still occasionally recall it and laugh. Idiotic twisting of events.”

According to the report, Fallon was known for giving “passive-aggressive” and harsh feedback behind the scenes. According to multiple employees quoted in the exposé, Fallon’s moods determined how everyone’s day would go behind the scenes.

“It was like, if Jimmy is in a bad mood, everyone’s day is fucked,” a former employee said. “People wouldn’t joke around in the office, and they wouldn’t stand around and talk to each other. It was very much like, focus on whatever it is that you have to do because Jimmy’s in a bad mood, and if he sees that, he might fly off.”

A statement from NBC maintained that the network is “incredibly proud” of the late night talk show – though it notably made no mention of the host. “As in any workplace, we have had employees raise issues; those have been investigated and action has been taken where appropriate,” they said.

Fallon recently joined his fellow late night hosts Jimmy KimmelStephen ColbertJohn Oliver, and Seth Meyers on the Strike Force Five podcast, with the intent of sharing all of the proceeds made with their out of work staffs.

Though the late night show is currently on pause because of the strikes, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has already been renewed through 2026.
