Jeremy Renner is opening up about his near-fatal snow plow accident. 

In a new clip from his upcoming interview with ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer, the Marvel star shared, “If I was there on my own, that would have been a horrible way to die. And surely, I would have.” 

Renner, 52, was crushed by a snow plow on New Year’s Day near his Nevada home, ending up in critical condition. He was reportedly trying to save his nephew after the snow plow lost control and almost hit him. 

Renner broke over 30 bones in the freak accident. 

“The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake,” the report from the  Washoe County Sheriff’s Office read.

“Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to (his nephew), he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over.”

The interview with Diane Sawyer plays a recording of the distress call from Renner’s neighbor. 

“Someone’s been run over by a snowplow. Hurry,” the neighbor says in the recording. “Someone’s in front of my house, on the ground, and got run over by a snowcat. He’s been crushed … he is in rough shape.” 

In a new clip, the actor told Sawyer that he’s grateful that he wasn’t alone.

“I was with my nephew. Sweet Alex. And the rest of the calvary came.” 

A visibly emotional Renner, fighting tears, also said that while he was in the hospital, “I’m writing down notes on my phone. Last words to my family.” 

Renner is divorced from model Sonni Pacheco, and they share a daughter.

He came home from the hospital in January and has been recovering since. 

Renner previously posted a letter from his nephew that read, “I am very lucky because my uncle is Hawkeye (which is one of the Avengers). I am also very lucky that my uncle is alive from his accident.”

Sawyer’s interview with Renner airs Thursday, April 6, at 10:00 p.m. EST, on ABC, later on Hulu and Disney+.
