Are you smarter than a Jeopardy! contestant? A recent triple miss has at-home viewers asking themselves this very question.
During Tuesday’s (April 20) episode, one-day champ Robbi competed against Kat, an artist, and Mark, a theater professor. Prior to Double Jeopardy!, Robbi continued to take the lead before trailing behind.
Heading into the final round, Kat had taken the lead and Mark was in second place.
Final Jeopardy! included the clue: “At times, they each lives on Vilakazi St. in Soweto, so it claims to be the world’s only street home to 2 Nobel Peace Prize winners.” The category was Nobel Peace Prize Winners and the correct answer was “Who are Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu?”
The prompt was a triple miss, with all three contestants guessing incorrectly. Robbi guessed, “Who are Kissinger and Merekel?”
Mark wagered his total winnings and guessed Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi, and Kat went with Mandela and Barack Obama.
Viewers immediately took to social media to share their disbelief over all three contestants being stumped.
“I can’t believe *none* of the contestants knew the answer was two famous South Africans. Obama? Really? Gandhi? Sheesh,” one wrote.
Another echoed how simple the prompt was, writing, “Maybe it’s the first time I knew the answer to Final jeopardy, that all contestants missed.”
A third fired shots at the contestants. “Such an easy final Jeopardy. Maybe they should rethink the contestant selection process if none of them could figure it out,” they wrote.
One viewer argued that the prompt has been used in the past “at least a dozen times.” They called the triple miss “egregious” and wrote that the clue is “honestly one of the first things you should think of when you see the category.”
Others are pointing out that this is the second easy Final Jeopardy in a row. Monday’s (April 12) broadcast featured a clue about Walt Disney that hinted at the answer in the prompt. It elicited responses from frustrated viewers, one of whom penned, “You guys have got to be kidding, how is this a final jeopardy and not a $200 question???”
In other Jeopardy! news, the new series Jeopardy! Masters, hosted by Ken Jennings, will premiere May 10. The show will feature six champs competing in one tournament. Here’s hoping those questions require more thought!
