Jennifer Lawrence may have just angered the wrong fandom.

The actress weighed in on one of the summer’s biggest controversies while promoting her new psychological drama Die My Love. Joined by her co-star Robert Pattinson – who personally knows a thing or two about love triangles – Lawrence shared a shocking hot take about The Summer I Turned Pretty that has divided fans on social media.

“I have been ordered by all of my friends to not reveal this, but I am team Jeremiah. I am,” Lawrence confessed to Mubi.

She then began to criticize Christopher Briney‘s Conrad for how he treated Belly (Lola Tung).

“I think that Conrad is toxic,” she continued. “He kind of liked [Belly] but then didn’t. He left her hanging. For him to confess his love for her the night before her wedding is sick.”

But Lawrence doubled down on her hot take, welcoming any backlash it might receive.

“I am team Jeremiah. Rake me over the coals!” she said.

Pattinson, however, could not offer any input. “I know, I keep intending to watch the show,” he said.

The Summer I Turned Pretty, based on Jenny Han’s bestselling series, follows three childhood friends – Belly Conklin (Tung) and brothers Conrad (Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno) – who become entwined in a messy, years-long love triangle that ended with Belly and Conrad reuniting at the end of the series. Despite the happy ending, the TSITP fandom remains divided over who was the better partner for Belly.

Lawrence’s response, which now reportedly has 6.8 million views on X, drew immediate responses from fans online, who are as divided about Lawrence’s opinion as they were about the show’s drama when the final season aired on Prime Video this summer.

“She’s so wrong, that’s crazy,” one fan commented. Others demanded she “watch the show with open eyes” and said they understand why “her friends said keep this to her self.”

Others pointed out that The Hunger Games star’s opinion is equivalent to her saying she is Team Gale over Team Peeta.

The Summer I Turned Pretty has inspired such vehement fandom Prime Video released statements reminding fans to be kind towards the show’s cast and crew.

“The show isn’t real but the people playing the characters are,” the show’s official social media told fans.
