NextImg:Jenna Bush Hager Reflects On Returning To The White House With Her Daughter: “She Met The People Who Meant The Most To Us”

Today‘s Jenna Bush Hager recently attended the White House holiday press party with her daughter, where she says they shared a “beautiful” experience with the White House staff who worked there during her father’s presidency.

Bush Hager told Hoda Kotb all about the event during today’s broadcast, where she reflected on seeing the White House decorations with Sheinelle Jones and Savannah Guthrie‘s children in tow. “What was so cool is they invited us to go a little early, and I walked in with all the kids – the adults weren’t ready – to see the house totally decorated,” Bush Hager recalled.

When Kotb asked what the kids thought about the White House, Bush Hager said their reactions reminded her of how she felt as a little girl in the White House for the first time when her grandfather, George H.W. Bush, was president.

“I saw their faces, which is just pure awe. What was so amazing is that’s how old I was. I was young when I first saw it decorated like that, even younger,” she told Kotb. “My memories at that time all revolved around the house being decorated like that, it was so beautiful.”

She revealed that she also shared a “really beautiful moment” with a White House employee named Bernard who worked there when her father was president, from 2001 to 2009. She said Bernard asked her to come to the kitchen, where she saw various other employees she remembered from her time in the White House.

“I walked in the kitchen and I brought Mila, and Savannah and Vale, and Sheinelle and her son, and we went in and they were like, ‘How’s your dad? What’s happening? And they told all these funny stories,” she said.

She added, “People are like, ‘Does Mila even get it?’ And I’m like, I don’t know, but I love that that’s who she met. She met the people who meant the most to us, and they weren’t the fancy reporters that were outside in sparkly dresses. They were the people who made that house a home. It was so awesome to see them again.”

Kotb said the story gave her “chills.”

“They must be so proud of you,” she told her co-host, adding that this must have been an “unforgettable” experience for the kids.

Today with Hoda & Jenna airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
