Jenna Bush Hager has one message for young adults in their twenties: “Go out as much as you can.”
On Thursday’s (Oct. 5) broadcast of Today With Hoda & Jenna, the co-hosts shared some thoughtful advice for young people, as well as a dire warning.
“I would go out as much as you can in your twenties, go out, keep dating, enjoy things,” Bush Hager suggested.
“Keep dating – you love to say that,” Hoda Kotb commented.
Bush Hager continued sagely, “Because guess what, your hangovers get way worse and you like to go to bed at 8:30 or 8:35 after watching my favorite new show.”
The co-hosts were discussing comedian Amy Schumer’s recent social media post that compared a photo of her in her twenties to a recent photo of her in the hospital. She captioned the images, “Warning 20 somethings I looked like this at your age. Swipe. Life is coming for you.”
It might have been meant in jest, but it struck a cord with Kotb and Bush Hager.
“The truth is, and this is how we should feel everyday in your life, this is the youngest you’ll be in that moment,” Bush Hager stated. “You look great, you feel great, you’re young, your back doesn’t hurt yet. You haven’t had a lot of stomach operations – I’m mainly talking to myself.”
She continued, “You’re in fighting shape, so use that energy for good.”
Of course, hindsight is 20:20.
Bush Hager recently shared a hilarious anecdote from her own youth. After going through a particularly difficult breakup, she almost ended a night out on the town with her friend by getting a Destiny’s Child tattoo on her back.
“I actually remember that moment with a terrible breakup — I actually ended up getting back with that person about 47 times — but my friend Tracy was like, ‘It’s enough already, get up,’” she recalled. “We went out and we danced and I almost got ‘Survivor’ tattooed onto my back.
“We actually went to the tattoo parlor on 6th Street and thank you, Jesus, it was closed. Imagine me with ‘Survivor’ tattooed on my back?” she said to Kotb.
Kotb, needless to say, was not a fan of the idea.
Today with Jenna and Hoda airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
