NextImg:Jenna Bush Hager Grows Visibly Emotional On ‘Today With Hoda & Jenna’ Discussing New Book She Wrote With Her Twin Sister Barbara: “The Common Thread To Everything Is Love”

Jenna Bush Hager and her twin sister, Barbara Pierce Bush, kicked off their book tour this past weekend with five stops across Texas.

But when she returned to work today, the daytime host appeared to become emotional on Today With Hoda & Jenna as she opened up to Hoda Kotb about the “very special” weekend she shared with her family and what it’s like co-writing books with her sister.

“I love how the common thread in your books was love, in all the books you and your sister have written together,” Kotb remarked.

Jenna noted that she and Barbara, with whom she’s co-written four books, used to write about sisterhood but recently decided to switch gears.

“We used to focus on sisters, but people would say, ‘Oh I don’t have a sister but my best friend makes me feel brave,’ or ‘Here’s my brother and he’s always empowered me,'” Jenna responded. “And the common thread to everything is love.”

She recounted a special moment from one of the stops of her book tour this weekend where someone told her that their favorite line from their new book, Love Comes First, is, “I’ll love you just as you are.”

Jenna appeared to become emotional as she told Kotb, “Sometimes we try to change people we love when really we should love them just as they are and make them feel like they are enough.”

She also shared that she and her sister enjoyed a dinner with their parents, former U.S. President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush, in celebration of their mother’s birthday.

“We went to dinner just the four of us and what we realized is, I don’t think we’ve been just the four of us in almost 20 years,” Jenna told Kotb. She explained that there are usually other people joining them, whether it be her kids or their husbands. “That’s an exaggeration, but let’s say a decade.”

She continued, “My point is … There was something about it that was really special.”

Kotb seemed to feel the love, too, gushing over the picture they shared of the the family enjoying a private dinner together this weekend. She told her co-host, “You can feel, even in that picture, it was very intimate.”

Today with Jenna and Hoda airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
