It was a happy reunion on Today With Jenna & Friends when Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb co-hosted the fourth hour of Today for the first time since Kotb’s retirement earlier this year.

Kotb kicked off the broadcast with some kind words for her former co-host. But Bush Hager quickly caught Kotb in a lie when she began questioning Kotb about her life post-retirement.

“Can I just say before we start that Jenna Bush Hager, you haver been literally crushing it since January 12 or whenever my last day is,” Kotb said. “I’ve been watching you every single day. You’ve been incredible, so I hope you’re proud of yourself.”

Bush Hager could barely hold back her tears as she told Kotb it felt like they “haven’t even spent a day apart.”

“I miss you and I’m so happy for you,” she told her former co-host of almost six years.

But the touching moment was short-lived as Bush Hager later asked Kotb a series of rapid-fire questions about what she has been up to since retiring from The Today Show and Today With Jenna & Friends.

“How many times a week do you watch The Today Show?” Bush Hager asked.

Kotb appeared a bit caught off guard by the question as she responded, “Um,” with a laugh.

“You just said you watched it every day!” Bush Hager pointed out. She then insinuated that Kotb’s body language showed she was lying. “When she said it she looked a little bit to the left.”

In her defense, Kotb clarified that she has “watched it multiple times.”

“Does that mean two times?” Bush Hager asked, to which Kotb replied, “I have watched you with Justin [Sylvester], which was outstanding. I watched you with many of your other cohosts who I’ve enjoyed, many, lots of them.”

Bush Hager then accused Kotb of not being able to name any of the dozens of celebrity guest hosts who have joined her on the show since she took up the mantle on the fourth hour of Today.

However, Kotb certainly did tune in when Scarlett Johansson guest hosted and praised the actress’ chemistry with Bush Hager.

“When I saw Hoda she was like, ‘You and Scarlett!’ And I said, ‘I know,’” she told Johansson on the show. Later on in the broadcast, she also revealed that Kotb admitted she was “kind of jealous” of their undeniable chemistry.
