When duty calls, Jenna Bush Hager answers – even if she’s feeling a bit hungover.

The daytime host admitted as much during a segment on Today With Hoda & Jenna when she and Hoda Kotb were answering viewer questions about “social dilemmas.”

One viewer wrote in to complain that their coworker outed them for calling out of work because they were hungover. “He said he was just being funny, but I’m furious. What should I do?” the viewer asked.

Kotb and Bush Hager appeared annoyed on her behalf. “Wow, I can’t bear Matt, what a blab,” Kotb commented.

“We all know a Matt out there,” Bush Hager added. “I always tell my kids, ‘Don’t be a narc.’ When they start telling on each other I’m like, ‘Stop narcing on each other and go to your room!'” She then asked her co-host if she’s ever “called in hungover.”

“Yeah, I have!” Kotb replied.

Bush Hager appeared thoroughly shocked. “What?!” she exclaimed.

Kotb explained that she certainly called out of work for feeling hungover before she “worked this shift.” She also accused Bush Hager of doing it, too, which she denied.

“No, I have never called in hungover. Never!” Bush Hager replied.

Kotb appeared just as surprised as Bush Hager. “Okay, I need a minute right now,” she said, sparking laughter from the Today crew.

Bush Hager continued, “I have never called in hungover, but since I’ve started working, I have showed up at work. You may have been sitting right next to me.”

Turning back to the viewer’s question, Kotb noted that she could understand Matt’s perspective. “He’s like, ‘Oh, so-and-so is out sick,’ you picture yourself going, ‘Oh I bet she is!'” she said.

Bush Hager certainly understood as well. “That’s like after the Christmas party, if I called in sick you would have busted me,” she told Kotb.

That may just be true. Kotb called Bush Hager out on the air after the Today Show Christmas party. Bush Hager had already hinted at the top of the broadcast that the holiday party got a little wild. “I’m sort of ready to go to the sober living house where my parents live,” she joked.

Kotb set the scene for viewers who missed out on the fun. “Our Today Show crew got together for drinks. Now, this is how we party,” she said. “3 p.m. we meet, [and] for most people it was a wrap by 5 p.m., 5:30. That’s two hours of sitting there and talking and drinking. For others…” She trailed off before turning to Bush Hager and saying, “I heard you were the ringleader.”

Though Bush Hager denied the accusation, Kotb continued, “I heard from sources that they said, ‘Let’s get the check.’ It was late, and sources say that you said, ‘One more round!’”

Bush Hager denied the claim and noted that there were “four of us standing” but she refused to name any names. But Kotb promptly called them out, too –  Savannah Guthrie, Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer also kept the party going.
