Jenna Bush Hager got completely shut down by one of the producers on Today With Hoda & Jenna when she shared an ongoing inside joke she shares with her son.

Bush Hager, who recently joked about dressing up in a couple’s costume with her toddler son, told Hoda Kotb that her son was being “rude” to her by saying she’s “not his girlfriend.”

Kotb appeared incredulous as she asked, “How did this girlfriend thing even begin?”

“I just heard [producer Gavin Shulman] yell, ‘You’re not!’ I know, but it’s a thing I like to do!” she confessed.

“I like to say, ‘I love you so much I’m your girlfriend,’ and I like him to say, ‘Yeah, mommy’s my girlfriend.’ Okay?” she explained as she and Kotb laughed. “I know I have major issues.”

Bush Hager recently revealed her son is also refusing to let her dress up as his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle character’s girlfriend for Halloween — and he’s reportedly resorted to “gaslighting” her now.

She recently told Kotb, “Oh he’s pushing my buttons, because now he’s asking other people to be his Ninja Turtle’s girlfriend.”

She added, “It was my idea and now he’s saying to others, ‘You can be my girlfriend, not mommy.’

But this isn’t the first time the Today producers offered her some parenting advice.

On an episode that aired in October 2023, Bush Hager asked viewers if they though it might be time to move her four-year-old son, Hal, out of his crib and into a bigger bed. “Y’all, it’s normal, right?” she asked the camera crew, but was met with a resounding “No.”

“I wasn’t even asking you!” Bush Hager responded. “I was asking [the viewers at home].”

She later called the producers out for “shaming” her. But she did note her son eventually moved into his “big boy bed” without her.

“It all happened without his mother’s help! And it leaves me to wonder if I’m too overbearing when it comes just to him,” she admitted to Kotb.

“Well, y’all had shamed me, and really the whole community had shamed me for the fact that he was in a crib. You all shamed me a little,” she recalled. “So I said, ‘Okay Hal, I think it’s time, some friends have said it’s time to move!’ And he was not ready, he was scared.”
