Former US Attorney General Bill Barr could be “protecting” high-profile people linked to Jeffrey Epstein’s jail cell suicide, the infamous sex offender’s younger brother said in a new interview.
Mark Epstein speculated in an interview with NewsNation’s Leland Vittert that his brother’s well-heeled connections may have played a role in his shocking death.
“He had dirt on people. In 2016, he said he had dirt on the then-presidential candidates,” Mark Epstein told the outlet.
Jeffrey Epstein, 66, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center on Aug. 10, 2019.
At the time, the multimillionaire was staring down federal charges for allegedly sex trafficking underage girls from Florida to New York.
Mark Epstein, however, challenged then-Attorney General Barr’s announcement that a pathologist ruled his brother died by suicide by hanging thanks to “screw ups” in the jail.
“Yes, there were screw-ups, but that doesn’t mean my brother committed suicide because of screw-ups,” Mark said, pointing out that the initial cause of death on his brother’s death certificate actually read “pending.”
“Why would Barr be covering this up? Who is he protecting?” Mark added.
“We need more answers. There hasn’t been much of an investigation at all,” he claimed.
“The medical personnel, the pathologist — none of them have been questioned, which is highly unusual, especially in high-profile cases,” Mark noted.
The Department of Justice didn’t immediately respond to request for comment.
Mark, 69, previously told The Post that Jeffrey bragged about having serious inside information on both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
“Here’s a direct quote: ‘If I said what I know about both candidates, they’d have to cancel the election.’ That’s what Jeffrey told me in 2016,” he said earlier this month.
In his interview with NewsNation, Mark Epstein refused to speculate about the bombshell allegations against his brother – which have been brought into high relief over the past two weeks with the release of hundreds of from a civil suit against Jeffrey’s girlfriend-turned-madam, Ghislaine Maxwell.
In addition to accusations of horrific sexual abuse and even trafficking, the document trove also includes the names of several high-profile associates – including Trump, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and even Stephen Hawking.
“I think he was just having a good time. You know, Jeffrey liked to have a good time,” Mark insisted.
When Jeffrey was arrested in July 2019, his legal team was ready to secure bail, Mark added.
“They were going to appeal the [judge’s decision to deny bail], and Jeff was putting up a very large bail. His attorneys asked me if I would guarantee his entire bail, essentially doubling it. I agreed,” he claimed.
“The highest bail in U.S. history at that point in time was $100 million. I don’t remember the exact number, but this would have been somewhere approximately, I think, $160 million,” the property developer explained.
Mark Epstein was joined in the interview by his brother’s former attorney, Alan Dershowitz, who has also been embroiled in the scandal when Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre alleged in 2014 that he sexually abused her.
Dershowitz, 85, commented on the continued caginess around crucial records related to Epstein.
“No, I’ve never seen anything like that,” the famous lawyer said of the ongoing existence of tapes and financial records related to Jeffrey Epstein, despite the lack of ongoing investigations.
“From the day I was falsely accused, I asked that every single piece of paper, every videotape, every audio tape, every document be released,” he lamented.
