NextImg:Jeff McNeil hits Little League homer for Mets after Red Sox make disastrous error

Jeff McNeil took a trip around the bases at Fenway Park that looked more like something you’d see at the Little League World Series in Williamsport.

With the Mets down 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning on Saturday night against the Red Sox, McNeil turned a two-RBI single into a full trip home as he scored after catcher Jorge Alfaro made a horrific throw to second base.

The New York second baseman came to the plate after Francisco Lindor singled and Pete Alonso doubled to get the rally started.

McNeil then lined a 94-mph fastball from Boston starter James Paxton up the middle to bring in both runs, though center fielder Jarren Duran sailed a throw home that was far too late.

Seeing this, McNeil scampered to second.

Alfaro got aggressive and tried to cut down the 31-year-old at second but missed shortstop Yu Chang by a healthy margin.

The ball rolled deep into left-center field, and by the time Duran flagged the ball down, McNeil had already scored to complete the wacky play and give the Mets a 3-2 lead, which was erased in the fifth on Chang’s solo blast.

Officially, McNeil was credited with only a single and a three-base error despite running all the way around.
