Bally Sports analyst Jeff Francoeur had a very pointed question for Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia — one that perhaps he didn’t intend to get on the air.
But that was the case on Wednesday afternoon when Arcia struck out looking to end the bottom of the seventh with Atlanta down 4-2.
Phillies pitcher Jose Alvarado seemed to get Arcia to step back with a sinker that was called for strike three to end the frame.
Nevertheless, Francoeur didn’t understand why the Braves shortstop was stepping back during the pitch — and got caught on a hot mic expressing just that.
“What the hell was he backing up for there?” Francoeur asked, somewhat frustratedly, thinking the broadcast had gone to commercial.
The broadcast quickly cut to an advertisement after that moment.
The Braves ended up losing the game, 6-5, to the Phillies as Philadelphia returned to The City of Brotherly Love to host the Mets on Thursday night.
The Braves headed out on the road to take on the lowly Nationals.
Wednesday seemed to be a tough day for baseball broadcasters getting caught on a hot mic.
Giants and NBC play-by-play announcer Duane Kuiper learned that it might be better not to announce your bathroom breaks until you’re 100 percent sure that the commercial break has started.
Kuiper announced to the audience that he had to pee in a hilarious moment.
Over the summer, Yankees WFAN radio broadcaster Suzyn Waldman ripped the Yankees for being “boring” when she thought the broadcast had cut away to a break.
Francoeur has become a staple on Braves broadcasts, with 2023 being his sixth season in the booth as the lead analyst on the team’s games.
Francoeur played 12 seasons in the majors, which included six in Atlanta, where he hit .265 and added 85 home runs.
