HOUSTON – In the midst of a challenging stretch, the Yankees now have another thing to worry about.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. left Thursday’s game against the Astros in the fourth inning with contusions on both knees, which happened on different plays, the team said.
The obvious one happened in the bottom of the third inning, when Chisholm took José Altuve’s helmet to his left knee while tagging him out on a play at second base to end the third inning.
He hobbled off the field while grabbing at his left knee.
Chisholm then took his at-bat in the top of the fourth, but struck out on three pitches, limped back to the dugout and was replaced by José Caballero in the bottom of the fourth.
YES Network cameras showed Chisholm motioning in the dugout that he was done after taking the at-bat.
Chisholm has been one of the Yankees’ hotter hitters of late, entering Thursday batting .288 with a 1.099 OPS and seven home runs over his last 15 games.
