Jay-Z did not mince words about the Recording Academy at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
While accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award on Sunday night, the rapper and producer — a k a Shawn Corey Carter — criticized voters for never giving his wife, Beyoncé Knowles, the Grammy for album of the year despite her being nominated four times.
“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady,” Jay-Z said, referring to Knowles, who was standing in the audience at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
“But she has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys, never won album of the year. That doesn’t work.”
Adding fuel to the fire, earlier the rapper said, “Some of you may feel like you were robbed… Some of you don’t belong in the category.”
Jay-Z, 54, was accompanied onstage by the couple’s 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. He has been publicly supportive of Knowles’ music after major Grammys losses before.

Knowles, 42, first lost album of the year in 2010 when her “I Am… Sasha Fierce” fell to Taylor Swift’s “Fearless.”
In 2015, her “Beyoncé” was beaten by Beck’s “Morning Phase.” Adele’s “25” topped Knowles’ “Lemonade” in 2017. And most recently, “Renaissance” lost to Harry Styles’ “Harry’s House” in 2023.
Despite those notable losses, Knowles holds the record for most Grammy wins of all time, with 32.
