Jason Whitlock had some choice words for Shannon Sharpe after the Hall of Famer said he received a lack of respect from former “Undisputed” co-host Skip Bayless that prompted his exit in the summer.
On Friday, Sharpe spoke about the split to his current debate partner Stephan A. Smith on ESPN’s “First Take” after seven years on the FS1 show.
“Whatever the relationship is, once one partner has no respect for the other, the other partner then in turn loses respect for said partner,” Sharpe said. “Then I think it’s only a matter of time.
“Because I felt in that moment he [Bayless] had lost all respect for me, he had no respect for me.”
The explanation sparked a response from Whitlock, who hosts a show with Blaze Media called “Fearless with Jason Whitlock.”
He posted a video on X to share his thoughts on Saturday morning.
“Respect, that’s a female emotion, a female energy. That’s why Aretha Franklin sang about it,” Whitlock said. “As a man, regardless of color, you are supposed to be about winning the respect of God.
“Once your focus is there, the respect or lack thereof from men will not trigger you, won’t make you emotional, won’t make you want to pick up a gun because someone disrespected you, won’t make you lose your cool on television because someone who really doesn’t matter didn’t respect you.”
‘Don’t be a woman, be a man,” he further added. “Be about winning the respect of God and dismissing the people who disrespect you here on this planet.”
Sharpe, a three-time Super Bowl champ, had his “First Take” debut with Smith on Sep. 4, and it set the record for the ESPN show’s second-most viewers for the year at 727,000 television viewers, ClutchPoints reported from SportsTVRatings.
Bayless, once Sharpe left, took some time off to later replace his cohost with a rotating group of debaters, including Lil Wayne, Keyshawn Johnson, and Richard Sherman.
