NextImg:Jason Kidd ‘expected’ to sign extension with Mavericks after Knicks coaching interest

Jason Kidd is “expected” to sign an extension with the Mavericks before next season, according to Hall of Fame writer Marc Stein, a development that’s noteworthy in New York only because the former point guard had once been viewed as the Knicks’ top choice for head coach.

The Mavericks had already rejected the Knicks’ request to interview Kidd and GM Nico Harrison publicly dismissed the idea his coach would leave.

Still, speculation persisted that Kidd would find his way to the Knicks if the Mavericks didn’t add money to his contract.

With the Knicks’ coaching search dragging nearly a full month, the Mavericks wanted to hold off extension talks until later in the offseason, as The Post reported.

The Knicks, meanwhile, moved on from Kidd and are focused on Mike Brown, who interviewed for a second time Tuesday while reportedly meeting with owner James Dolan.

If Brown lands the gig, he will be the 14th Knicks coach since 2000 but just the second since 2020.
