Jared Goff’s latest redemption may make him significantly richer.
The Lions quarterback, who led the franchise to an NFC Championship berth this season, “is expected to have contract extension talks” with Detroit brass in the offseason, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Should both sides come together, “the deal is expected to make Goff one of the highest-paid quarterbacks” in the NFL,” Rapoport added Sunday.
Goff, who turns 30 in October, is entering the last year of a four-year, $134 million contract and is slated to make $26.6 million next season, according to Spotrac.
A former first-overall pick by the Rams in 2016, Goff led Los Angeles to the Super Bowl in February 2019 before losing to the Patriots, 13-3.
He was traded to the Lions less than two years later in January 2021, with the Rams receiving then-Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.
The Stafford-led Rams went on to win the Super Bowl in February 2022.
The Lions, fresh off an NFC North title, defeated Stafford and the Rams, 24-23, during the wild-card round of the playoff earlier this month in what was Detroit’s first postseason win in 32 years.
Detroit advanced to the divisional round and defeated Tampa Bay last week, 31-23.
Goff threw for 4,575 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 17 regular-season games this year.
The three-time Pro Bowler also ran for two scores en route to a 12-5 campaign for the Lions.
Through two playoff games so far, Goff has thrown three touchdowns against zero interceptions.
The 49ers will host the Lions in Sunday’s NFC Championship game which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. in Santa Clara, Calif.
