James Conner suffered a scary-looking injury during the third quarter of the Cardinals’ game against the 49ers.
The running back was hit low on a rushing attempt when his ankle got trapped under him and appeared to bend in an awkward position as he was brought down by a 49ers player, immediately causing an obvious amount of pain for Conner.
Conner grabbed for his lower right leg and after the Cardinals’ medical staff came out to check on him, he was carted off the field as his teammates came onto the field to show their support and concern for their injured teammate.
Arizona quickly ruled Conner out for the remainder of the game with an ankle injury.
Conner left the game with nine carries for 22 yards and an additional 15 yards on three receptions.
The running back had rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown through the first two games and had five catches for 23 yards and a touchdown during that same span.

Conner is an important piece of the Cardinals’ offense and he leaves them somewhat thin at the position, with Trey Benson and Emari Demercado next on the depth chart.
Benson is expected to slot into the starter role, depending on how long Conner could potentially be out for.
The second year back did have 69 total yards in Week 1 and 14 in Week 2.
