Observations from the Giants’ training camp practice on Monday.
Jalin Hyatt, who did not score a touchdown as a rookie, caught a pair of touchdown passes from Daniel Jones to continue a strong camp.
He finished off a 70-yard bomb on the second play from scrimmage and then scored on a 2-yard slant when both Isaiah Simmons and Nick McCloud went with Darius Slayton and left Hyatt uncovered.
After the first team offense failed to score in the no-huddle drill, the second team offense should have when Tommy DeVito dropped a perfectly placed ball over the shoulder of a diving Gunner Olszewski.
But the ball went off of Olszewski’s fingertips after he snuck behind Breon Borders in the prevent defense.
Tre Hawkins, David Long Jr., Simmons and Tyler Nubin all got work throughout the secondary with the first-team defense in the injury-related absences of Dru Phillips (lower body) and Cor’Dale Flott (quad).
The back end of the defense is still very much a work in progress, though Nubin, Dane Belton and Jason Pinnock all had interceptions between either 11-on-11 or 1-on-1 drills.
TE Lawrence Cager, who previously was out with a hamstring, left practice with a limp.
