The NFL’s schedule release extravaganza has officially kicked off with the announcement of their 2023 international games.
The league announced the five matchups on Wednesday morning, headlined by a pair of back-to-back matchups in London for Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars – the first time a team has ever played two international games in the same season.
In Week 4, Jacksonville plays the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium, giving the international crowd a look at top draft pick Bijan Robinson against Doug Pederson and Co.
One week later in Week 5, Jacksonville travels across the city to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where they will play Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
The second matchup will count as a road game for Jacksonville (and a home game for Buffalo).
In Week 6, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will play host again; the Ravens and newly-minted quarterback Lamar Jackson will face the Tennessee Titans, who could be starting second-round signal caller Will Levis by then.
“We can’t wait to welcome teams to London for three brilliant weekends of football in October,” said Henry Hodgson, GM of NFL UK. “To see the Jacksonville Jaguars extend their stay in the UK and play two regular season games here this year is indicative of the Jags’ commitment to continuing to grow their fanbase here long-term.”
After a two-week break in the international schedule, the action then shifts to Frankfurt, Germany, where two games will be played in Frankfurt Stadium Weeks 9 and 10.
First, in Week 9, Patrick Mahomes and the Super Bowl champion Chiefs will take on Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins.
Then, in Week 10, the international schedule closes out with the Colts – and possibly new quarterback Anthony Richardson – taking on Bill Belichick and the Patriots.
“We are also pleased to confirm that the two games in Germany will be played in Frankfurt, a city steeped in NFL heritage,” said NFL vice president Peter O’Reilly. “We look forward to staging both games at Eintracht Frankfurt’s Stadium, building on the incredible atmosphere experienced at last season’s game in Munich.”
