Ex-Mayor Bill de Blasio just got fined $475,000 for misusing his NYPD detail amid his ridiculous four-month run for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.
The fine from the city’s Conflicts of Interest Board — $155,000 as punishment, plus $320,000 to reimburse the city — comes one year after a scorching DOI report on Blas’ naked misappropriation of city resources.
His campaign also faces a $53,000 federal fine over his abuse of two political action committees that couldn’t legally boost his prez bid, but paid out nearly $200,000 to the staffers, advisers and lawyers working on it.
The whole thing was an obscenely self-indulgent fiasco: He never even made it out of 2019 and to real voting — and the campaign was $22,000 in debt when he finally called it quits.
Meanwhile, Blas also still faces huge bills for the lawyers who found enough technicalities to let him skate on his other campaign-finance outrages.
We’d cheer the fact that he’ll finally have to get a real job to pay off all this — but who in the world would pay Bill de Blasio such huge sums for honest work?
