Blake Lively’s controversial It Ends With Us movie is coming to digital platforms tomorrow, so get ready for a new round of discourse.
Directed by Justin Baldoni, with a screenplay by Christy Hall, It Ends With Us is based on the popular—though thorny—2016 Colleen Hoover novel of the same name. Lively stars as the lead character, Lily, while Baldoni stars as a man named Ryle Kincaid (yes, really!). Lily falls into a troubled romantic, and ultimately abusive, relationship with Ryle. C’mon, Ryle. That’s so not cool, Ryle. Why would you hit the person you love, Ryle?
Also starring Brandon Sklenar, Jenny Slate, and Hasan Minhaj, It Ends With Us also drew attention for rumors that Baldoni and Lively were difficult to work with. That didn’t stop the movie from becoming a box office hit, raking in $334.8 million at the worldwide box office. But even box office hits these days are coming to digital platforms after just a month and a half in theaters.
But before you buy or rent It Ends With Us on digital, you should know that—because it is a Sony movie—It Ends With Us will likely be on Netflix very soon. Beginning on Tuesday, September 24 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also Monday, September 23 at 9 p.m. Pacific Time) It Ends With Us will be available to buy and rent digitally on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Vudu, and more.
The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the movie will cost $19.99 to rent, and $24.99 to buy. If you rent the movie, you will have a 48-hour window to watch it after you hit “play.”
The It Ends With Us DVD release date has not yet been announced.
It Ends With Us is not currently streaming free on any of the subscription-based streaming services. However, if you don’t want to pay to buy or rent the movie, we do expect to see It Ends With Us streaming on Netflix in the near future.
It Ends With Us will likely be on Netflix sometime this fall. Netflix has a deal with Sony Pictures that gives the streamer the rights to the Sony movies in the “Pay 1” window, meaning the first streaming window after the film’s home media release. Other recent Sony movies, including Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and The Garfield Movie, came to Netflix about four months after opening in theaters.
If It Ends With Us follows this same release pattern, you can expect It Ends With Us to stream on Netflix around December 2024, aka four months after the movie opened in theaters.
