NextImg:Islanders begin offseason with new Hudson Fasching contract

The Islanders wasted no time getting down to offseason business.

The team signed Hudson Fasching to a two-year contract, announced just a couple hours after breakup day finished on Monday.

According to an industry source, the deal is for $775,000 average annual value, which will be the league minimum next season if the cap rises by $1 million, as is widely anticipated.

It is a one-way deal, which the 27-year-old earned by breaking his way into the lineup and playing 49 games this season.

“That’s the dream, right?” Fasching said, asked about the prospect of signing a one-way deal with the Isles. “That’s what everybody in the minors is working towards, it’s something I’ve worked hard for. Hopefully that’s something in my future.”

Fasching was called up in December due to injuries and never left the Islanders’ lineup, scoring 10 goals with nine assists as his straight-line style meshed well with the team.

“I’m excited,” he said. “This is what I’ve always worked towards and to be able to look down at the season and be like, I finished the season playing in the Stanley Cup playoffs, it’s kind of a dream come true for me. I’m just so excited for the summer, just to be better again next year.”

Goaltender Ilya Sorokin said he’s “always open” to signing a long-term extension but doesn’t think about contracts.

Sorokin’s deal expires next summer and he is expected to get a massive payday, either with the Isles or elsewhere.

Backup Semyon Varlamov, who is hitting free agency, reiterated that he wants to stay with the Islanders despite barely playing over the season’s final stretch.

“It didn’t change anything,” said Varlamov, who will need to take a large pay cut from his current $5 million cap number to stay on Long Island. “Like I said before, I want to stay on the team.”

Alexander Romanov said he’s undecided on whether to undergo surgery after playing through an upper-body injury in the playoffs. He is planning on going home to Russia for the summer.

Oliver Wahlstrom, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in December, said he expects to be good to go for training camp.

A pending restricted free agent, Wahlstrom confirmed to The Post that he’s changed his representation to CAA’s Pat Brisson.

Scott Mayfield, another unrestricted free agent, continued to reiterate that he wants to stay with the Islanders.

“I love it here, I think I’ve expressed that,” Mayfield said. “At the same time, it is my livelihood and something I think I have gotten the opportunity now to be a free agent. If something comes up, I don’t know what to expect.”

The Isles also announced that Matt Maggio, a fifth-round pick last season, signed a three-year, entry-level deal.

According to an industry source, it is a two-way deal with a $775,000 salary at the NHL level and an $82,500 salary in the AHL, with a $95,000 signing bonus.

Maggio had 54 goals and 57 assists for the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires this season.

Pierre Engvall, who will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, said he hasn’t thought much about this summer, but had a great time with the Islanders after being traded to the team from Toronto right before the deadline.
