An alleged movie poster of a live-action adaptation of Seth MacFarlane’s hit animated show Family Guy has been making rounds on social media with a mind-blowing cast. But is it real?

Despite how real the poster may seem: no, a live-action adaptation of Family Guy is not in the works, nor is it coming to Netflix. In fact, the poster first appeared on Reddit last year – with a clear disclaimer that it’s fan-made – and sparked a similar hoax in December 2022.

The photoshopped poster shows several familiar faces in the core cast, including Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo as Chris Griffin, Ariel Winter as Meg Griffin, and Bill Hader as Quagmire. Kevin James is fan-cast as the family patriarch Peter Griffin with Laura Linney as his wife, Lois Griffin.

The poster was recently shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) by an alleged “entertainment news” personality with a Twitter Blue verification mark. “First poster for the live action Family Guy movie,” they wrote in the caption.

Since then, the post has received over 14K views and several engagements from those who believe the poster is real. “Bill Hader being in a movie with Kevin James is fucking wild,” wrote one shocked user.

Another post, made on August 31, with no caption has been viewed over 8.8 million times and has nearly 2K comments, including quote responses. Many users expressed their anticipation for the fake movie, while others had major qualms with the casting. “Bill Hader [as] Quagmire is really taking me out right now,” shared one user.

Unfortunately for those on board, a Family Guy movie is not in the show’s immediate future – whether animated or live-action. In a 2023 interview with Emmy Magazine, show producers Alec Sulkin and Rich Appel explained why they’re avoiding a movie adaptation, despite the success of previous movie adaptations of adult animation shows, like Bob’s Burgers and The Simpsons

“Movies are hit and miss. For every Ted, there’s a Ted 2,” Sulkin said in reference to two of MacFarlane’s previous movies, the latter of which underperformed in the box office. Appel added, “We haven’t made a movie yet because Seth [MacFarlane] will be an active part of that, starting with the script. And right now, between the Ted TV series and book club, he just doesn’t have the time.”

As of now, Family Guy is showing no signs of slowing down and recently wrapped its 21st season which aired on Fox and celebrated the show’s 400th episode. The next season is expected to begin airing on October 1, 2023.
