Where to Stream:

Smoke (2025)

Powered by Reelgood

It’s been a week since Smoke‘s eventful Episode 9 revealed what happened to Michelle Calderone (Jurnee Smollett) and Dave Gudsen (Taron Egerton) after Steven Burk’s (Rafe Spall) house went up in flames.

And let’s just say, we’re not ready to move on from Dennis Lehane’s compelling characters quite yet…

Though the episode offered a certain sense of closure, it also left clear opportunities to continue the story. The question now, is will the Apple TV+ series return with new episodes? Or will Season 1, Episode 9, “Mirror Mirror,” serve as Smoke‘s final chapter?

Is there a new episode of Smoke on tonight, Thursday, August 21 or Friday, August 22? How many episodes are in Smoke Season 1? Will there be a Smoke Season 2 on Apple TV+? And if so, what could a sophomore season of the series look like?

Here’s everything we know about the future of Smoke, including a Season 2 renewal status, updates from creator Dennis Lehane, streaming info, and more.

Nope. If fans are hoping to catch a new episode of Smoke on Thursday, August 21 or Friday, August 22, they’re out of luck. Why? Well…

Smoke Season 1 on Apple TV consists of nine episodes.

Nope! We know it’s a bit unusual, but like Severance Season 1 before it, Smoke Season 1 only has nine episodes, not 10. That means Episode 9, “Mirror Mirror,” which premiered on Friday, August 15, was the finale. Read on for Season 2 info!

As of August 21, Apple TV+ had yet to renew or cancel the series. But if given the green light to make more episodes, creator Dennis Lehane told Decider that the team has already “planned a whole Season 2” and there’s even more story potential after that!

“We’re ready to go for you! We always saw the show as three seasons,” Lehane explained. “And just so you know, I always have to know where I’m ultimately going. I don’t know how I’m getting there, but I know where I am going. So I know where the show’s going.”

While we wait for more updates on Smoke Season 2, here’s a refresher on Season 1’s ending and where new episodes might take us.

Looking for a detailed Smoke Season 1 finale recap? Decider’s got you covered! The main takeaways after Season 1, however, are that Calderone’s frame job works, and after a fiery showdown with Gudsen, she cuffs him, takes him into the station, and the D&C arsonist’s uniform is recovered from his car’s glove box.

Though it may seem like the case is closed, if a potential Season 2 were to focus on the aftermath of Gudsen’s arrest and additional investigations, however, there’s a chance that Harvey (Greg Kinnear) and Calderone’s crimes could be exposed — especially since Gudsen threatened Harvey and Calderone’s brother has footage of her at Burk’s house the night of the blaze. As Lehane said, he’s got enough story for a three-season arc, so Smoke‘s fate rests in Apple TV+’s hands. Stay tuned for more info!

Smoke is an Apple TV+ original series, which means you’ll have to subscribe to the streaming platform to watch.
