One social media user is getting true crime fanatics fired up about an alleged new documentary available on Hulu called The Trail, which supposedly follows a mysterious case in Starved Rock, Illinois.

According to TikToker @tmi_7, otherwise known as Mr. Movie, The Trail is a new true crime documentary on streaming platforms that takes place in Starved Rock State Park, which is just outside of Chicago.

“A few kids went down this trail and they disappeared. And when the local authorities went looking for them, they disappeared,” he explains in the video. “Fourteen people went missing down this trail before they realized something was up and blocked it off.”

Mr. Movie continues, “As the investigation goes on, it just gets weirder and weirder. Around the perimeter of the site, they found a ton of trees covered with trail cams. By the time they collected them all, they had hundreds of trail cams,” which he says, “totally open up the investigation.”

Enticed yet? Well, don’t get too excited. If you can’t find The Trail on streaming platforms, there’s a pretty logical reason why. Luckily, we have you covered on everything you need to know! Read on to learn more.

If you want to watch The Trail, we have some bad news to break: The Trail is not a real documentary. The social media user who posted the video refers to himself as a “Parody Movie Critic” in his TikTok bio. Like The Trail, most of the movie suggestions he posts to his page don’t even exist.

While Starved Rock is a real place in Illinois, 14 people did not go missing there — and trees covered in trail cams were never discovered at the site. However, three women were found murdered in the area in the 1960s. Their deaths were later investigated in the 2021 docuseries The Murders at Starved Rock. Keep reading for more information.

In 2021, HBO released a three-part docuseries called The Murders at Starved Rock, which is currently streaming on Max. The Mark Wahlberg-produced series explores the brutal murders of three women — Lillian Oetting, Frances Murphy, and Mildred Linquist — in 1960. While Chester Otto Weger was convicted of the murders the following year, he has always maintained his innocence — and in 2020, he was released on parole after serving nearly 60 years behind bars.
