Kerry Washington and Omar Sy are the definition of “power couple” in the new action movie, Shadow Force, which is opening in movie theaters this weekend. Adopt me, please!

Directed by Joe Carnahan, with a screenplay co-written by Carnahan and Leon Chills, Shadow Force tells the love story of Kyrah (Washington) and Isaac (Sy), who were once leaders of a multinational, elite special forces unit… until they broke the rules by falling in love. Now the couple must go underground to protect their young son and outrun their fellow Force members who have orders to hunt them down. John Wick, but make it a love story.

In addition to Kerry Washington and Omar Sy, the Shadow Force cast includes Mark Strong, Oscar-nominated actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Cliff “Method Man” Smith. It’s sure to be a fun time at the movies that you don’t want to miss, so read on to learn where to watch the Shadow Force movie and when we expect to see the Shadow Force movie on streaming.

For now, Shadow Force will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in theaters in the U.S. on Friday, May 9. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Shadow Force is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.

Shadow Force is not streaming on Netflix right now. That said, Shadow Force is a Lionsgate release, and another recent Lionsgate release, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, began streaming on Netflix after two-and-a-half-months in theaters. So, maybe you’ll see Shadow Force on Netflix in about two and a half months, around late July or early August 2025. However, don’t count on it, because plenty of Lionsgate movies have not streamed on Netflix.

You will be able to purchase Shadow Force on Amazon Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream Shadow Force on Prime Video free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is not a Prime original movie. If you want to watch the Shadow Force movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms.

Shadow Force is not yet streaming on Starz. You might see  Shadow Force on Starz this year, because it is a Lionsgate film, and Lionsgate recently extended its output deal with Starz, despite the fact the studios are still planning to separate. Supposedly, under the new terms of the deal, Starz will have exclusive rights to Lionsgate films post-theaters, and that the window will now come sooner after the movie’s theatrical run.

But in practice, the recent Lionsgate films don’t seem to be streaming on Starz at an accelerated rate. The 2025 Lionsgate film Den of Thieves 2: Pantera began streaming on Netflix about two-and-a-half months after opening in theaters, and yet the movie is still not streaming on Starz. So, that’s confusing!

Last year, many Lionsgate films went to digital after two-and-a-half weeks in theaters, and began streaming on Starz about four and a half months after the movie opened in the theaters. If Shadow Force follows the same release pattern, you might see the movie on digital in about two-and-a-half weeks, and on Starz in about four and a half months, which would be around late September or early October 2025.

But clearly, not all Lionsgate movies are following that strategy in 2025. Right now, we don’t have a clear look at Lionsgate’s 2025 release strategy. If you want to see Shadow Force right away, you should go watch it in a movie theater.
