If you’re in the mood for an exorcism, go ahead and book your tickets to see the 2025 movie The Ritual, coming to movie theaters this weekend.

Directed by David Midell, with a screenplay written by Midell and Enrico Natale, The Ritual stars Al Pacino and Dan Stevens as two opposing priests, Theophilus Riesinger and Joseph Steiger, who must put aside their differences in order to come together and save a demonically-possessed young woman named Emma Schmidt (played by Abigail Cowen). In fact, the movie is inspired by the “true” story of an alleged exorcism that took place in Earling, Iowa in 1928, performed by German-American priest Theophilus Riesinger.

Also starring Ashley Greene, Patrick Fabian, and Patricia Heaton, The Ritual will no doubt follow in the footsteps of the many religious horror movies that have come before it. The real question is: Can Al Pacino do a German accent? We can’t wait to find out.

For now, The Ritual will only be available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in theaters wide in the U.S. on Friday, June 6. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. The Ritual is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.

The Ritual is not streaming on Netflix or Prime Video right now. While it’s possible The Ritual may stream on Netflix someday, it won’t be until after the theatrical run and digital release of the movie. The Ritual is not a Netflix original—it’s a small, independent film being distributed by XYZ Films. That said, several XYZ movies have gone on to stream on Netflix, like 2024’s Subservience, which began streaming on about three months after opening in theaters. It’s possible The Ritual will follow suit, and stream on Netflix in about three months, around September 2025. But we don’t know that for sure.

You will be able to purchase The Ritual on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream The Ritual for free on Prime Video any time soon, because it is not a Prime original movie. If you want to watch The Ritual movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms.

The Ritual movie digital release date has not yet been announced. However, we can make an educated guess as to when we might see The Ritual on video-on-demand, based on the digital release of previous films from XYZ Films.

Another XYZ movie, Bob Trevino Likes It was released on digital a little over one month after opening in theaters. If The Ritual follows a similar pattern, you might see the movie on video-on-demand in a little over a months time, around mid-to-late July 2025.

But this is all speculation. Digital releases vary by title. If you want to see The Ritual right away, you can catch the movie in a theater.
