If you’re in the mood to learn about American history while being entertained this weekend, you might want to get a ticket to see Jude Law’s new movie, The Order, in theaters.
Directed by Justin Kurzel, with a screenplay by Zach Baylin, The Order is adapted from the 1989 non-fiction book The Silent Brotherhood by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt. It details the true story of an FBI agent (played by Jude Law in the film) who took down a white supremacist terrorist group called The Order, which was active in the U.S. in the 1980s. Nicholas Hoult also stars as Bob Matthews, the infamous Neo-Nazi leader of the organization.
Also starring Tye Sheridan, Jurnee Smollett, Alison Oliver, and Marc Maron, The Order captures a violent chapter of American history. The film received mostly positive reviews when it premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in August, and may have a chance at some recognition this awards season. Here’s what to know about where to watch the 2024 movie The Order, and when we expect to see The Order movie on streaming.
For now, The Order will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in select theaters in the U.S. on Friday, December 6. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. The Order is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
The Order is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is not a Netflix movie. The Order is an Amazon MGM movie, and therefore will likely go to streaming on MGM+, the premium channel previously known as Epix, before going to stream on Amazon Prime. Currently, MGM+ costs $5.99 a month, and there is a seven-day free trial.

You will be able to purchase The Order on Amazon Prime Video when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, likely in about a month. But you will have to wait to be able to stream The Order on Prime Video free with a Prime subscription. The Order is an MGM movie, and Amazon has owned MGM since the 2022 acquisition. The MGM movies have been streaming on Prime—albeit slowly. First, the movies go to MGM+, before they become available free on Prime.
Challengers, for example, was an MGM movie that released on digital after one month in theaters, but did not stream on Amazon Prime until five months after it was released in theaters. If The Order follows a similar release pattern, you might see it on digital around January 2025, and streaming free on Amazon Prime around May 2025.
But this is all speculation. If you want to watch The Order right away, you can go see the movie in theaters.
