There’s nothing scarier for dog lovers than seeing man’s best friend in peril, which is why Good Boy—the new supernatural horror movie opening in theaters this weekend—is the ultimate scary movie for dog people.
Director Ben Leonberg, who also co-wrote the script with Alex Cannon, cast his own, real-life dog Indy as the star of his debut feature film. This very good boy—a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever—plays himself, in a haunted house story told from the perspective of a dog. Animals always know when something is off, and something is very off in this house.
A few humans appear in the Good Boy movie as well, including actors Shane Jensen, Arielle Friedman, and Larry Fessenden. The film first premiered at the 2025 South by Southwest Film Festival in March, where it was met with largely positive reviews from critics. If you want to start your spooky season off right, you should go see Good Boy theaters this weekend. But if you’d rather wait to watch the movie at home, here’s what we know about when Good Boy (2025) will be available to watch on streaming.
For now, Good Boy will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. on Friday, October 3. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Good Boy is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Good Boy is not streaming on Netflix, and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is an IFC Films and Shudder release, and will stream on the Shudder streaming platform, instead.
Good Boy will eventually be available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime, likely in about a month, but it will not be available to stream free on Prime any time soon, because it is a Shudder original.
If you want to watch Good Boy at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Shudder, the horror-themed streaming service.
Good Boy is not yet streaming on Shudder. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. We do expect to see Good Boy streaming on Shudder soon, but the Good Boy Shudder release date has not yet been announced. Another recent IFC and Shudder release, Dangerous Animals, came to Shudder on September 5, about three months after opening in theaters. If Good Boy follows the same pattern, Good Boy might come to Shudder around early January 2026.
That all said, this is all speculation. If you want to watch the 2025 Good Boy movie right away, you can catch the movie in theaters starting tomorrow.
