Eight years after Daniel Day-Lewis announced he was retiring from acting, the Oscar winner is back on screen starring in a new movie, Anemone, which opens in movie theaters this weekend.
The 68-year-old actor is returning to the limelight thanks to his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who directed Anemone in his feature film debut. (The father and son duo penned the script together.) The older Day-Lewis stars as a reclusive hermit named Ray, who gets a visit from his brother, Jem (Sean Bean). Jem wants his estranged brother to finally come back to society; to finally come back home. But it’s not that simple for Ray.
Also starring Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green, Anemone first premiered at New York Film Festival to mixed reviews from critics. But you don’t want to miss your chance to see Daniel Day-Lewis back in his element.
That said, if you’d rather wait to watch Day-Lewis on the small screen, here’s what we know about when we expect to be able to watch the Anemone movie on streaming on Peacock and Amazon Prime Video.
The Anemone movie is only be available to watch in a movie theater right now. The film will open in U.S. theaters on Friday, October 3. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Anemone is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Anemone is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Focus Features release. Focus Features is a subsidiary of Universal Studios, and almost all Universal movies go to the Universal-owned streaming platform, Peacock.
You will be able to purchase Anemone on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital. You will eventually be able to stream Anemone on Prime Video, free with a Prime subscription, four months after the movie streams on Peacock. This is thanks to the deal between Universal and Amazon that sends Universal movies to Peacock for the first four months of the “Pay 1 window,” then to Amazon Prime Video for the next months of the window, followed by four more months on Peacock. If our prediction for when Anemone will be on Peacock is correct, then you should see Anemone streaming on Prime around May or June 2026.
But the first place you’ll be able watch Anemone movie at home will be to buy or rent on digital platforms, followed by a streaming release on Peacock.
Peacock currently offers two subscription types: Premium with ads and Premium Plus ad-free. Peacock Premium costs $10.99/month, while Premium Plus costs $16.99/month.
You can save a bit by subscribing to one of Peacock’s annual plans, which give you 12 months for the price of 10. These cost either $109.99 with ads or $169.99 without ads.
Peacock Premium Plus is also available to subscribe to via Prime Video with a seven-day free trial that you can’t get by subscribing directly on Peacock.
Anemone is not yet streaming on Peacock. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Anemone streaming on Peacock eventually, but we’re not sure when. Another Focus Features/Universal release, The Phoenician Scheme, was released on digital after about one month in theaters, and it began streaming on Peacock about two months after opening in theaters.
If Anemone follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie on digital by early November 2025, and streaming on Peacock around early December 2025.
This is all speculation. Universal has not had a consistent release strategy for home media. If you want to watch the Anemone movie right away, you can catch the movie in theaters.
