Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy is once again going to make you feel all the things in his new movie Steve, which opens in select U.S. theaters this weekend.
Steve, which will be distributed by Netflix after an Oscar-qualifying theatrical run, is the second movie produced by Murphy’s new independent production company, Big Things Films, which he launched with Alan Moloney in February 2024. The first was last year’s Small Things like These, directed by Tim Mielants, who is back again to direct Murphy in Steve. The film was written by Max Porter, who adapted a new version of hi 2023 novella Shy, about a troubled student at a British reform school for boys in the ’90s. The movie version shifts the focus to the head teacher at the school, Steve (Murphy) who struggles to keep it together for the sake of the kids.
Steve will be emotional watch for anyone who is, or is close to, a school teacher. Read on to find out where to watch the Steve movie and when the Steve movie will be streaming on Netflix.
For now, Steve will only be available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in theaters in the U.S. on Friday, September 19. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Steve is not yet available to watch online or on streaming. That said, Steve will be on Netflix soon, as it is a Netflix original.
Steve is not streaming on Netflix or Prime Video right now, but will be on Netflix soon.
You will be able to purchase Steve on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream Steve on Prime Video free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is a Netflix original movie, and will soon be streaming exclusively on Netflix.
Steve will begin streaming on Netflix on Friday, October 3, 2025. So if you want to catch the film in theaters, don’t wait, because in two weeks time, the only place to watch Steve will be streaming exclusively on Netflix.
