Directed by Tim Story, The Blackening is the latest horror comedy to hit theaters. Luckily, we have you covered on all the ways you can watch this new flick!
Centering on the trope that the Black person always dies first in a horror movie, The Blackening introduces a group of friends, all of whom are Black, who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend trip to stay in a remote cabin in the woods. However, when they confront a masked killer, they are forced to try and determine which of them will die first.
So, where can you watch The Blackening? Is it on Prime Video? What about Max?
Here’s everything we know about the upcoming movie:
As of now, the only way to watch The Blackening is to head out to a movie theater when it releases on Friday, June 16. You can find a local showing on Fandango. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait until it becomes available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Vudu, Apple, YouTube and Amazon.
While a digital release date for The Blackening has not yet been announced, we can make an educated guess on when it will be available to rent or buy on platforms like Prime Video based on a previously released Lionsgate movie.
Operation Fortune, which premiered on March 3, came to digital platforms on March 21 — about three weeks after it was released in theaters. If The Blackening follows the same trajectory, we could be watching it from the comfort of our living rooms by early July 2023.
No, The Blackening will not be on Max since it’s not a Warner Bros. movie. The platform — previously known as HBO Max — also no longer does direct-to-streaming releases. Instead, they’ve implemented a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the Max release.
No, The Blackening will not be on Netflix — at least not any time soon. While it’s possible the thriller may come to the streamer at some point in the future, you’ll just have to head out to a movie theater or wait for it to become available on digital platforms in the meantime.
