Ted Lasso

If you’ve already seen the Ted Lasso Season 3 finale, you might be wondering: Is Ted Lasso canceled? Even though Apple TV+ has played coy for months, refusing to confirm that Ted Lasso Season 3 was or was not the final season, “So Long, Farewell” certainly felt like a series finale. Ted (Jason Sudeikis) bid adieu to London, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) reunited with her Dutch dish (Matteo van der Grijn) after accepting her role as the mother of AFC Richmond, and our beloved boys squashed West Ham on the pitch.

Creatively, the Ted Lasso saga seems pretty tied up, but could there still be a Ted Lasso Season 4 on Apple TV+? Is it possible that Apple will convince Jason Sudeikis and his series co-creators to whip up one last season of heartwarming television? Will Hannah Waddingham literally lock Sudeikis in a “dungeon” and force him to write more?

Here’s everything we know about the future of Ted Lasso, from cancelation rumors to Season 4 renewals to potential spin-offs…

So did Apple TV+ just kill its most popular and critically acclaimed show after only three seasons? Well, it’s more complicated than that.

Ted Lasso fans have long understood that the show’s creators — Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Joe Kelly, and Brendan Hunt — envisioned a three season arc for the series. That means that the Ted Lasso team succeeded in wrapping up the story they wanted to tell with just three seasons.

The Ted Lasso Season 3 finale certainly seems to be the series finale. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the show was canceled. In fact, it seems more likely that Apple TV+ wanted more Ted Lasso, but the creatives behind the series decided to end their run with Ted returning to the United States and AFC Richmond embracing its new role in the Premiere League. (Or is it Champions League, now?)

Again, we don’t know for sure, but it certainly seems like the cast and crew don’t expect to be coming back for Ted Lasso Season 4. Ahead of the Season 3 finale’s premiere, a number of the show’s stars bid farewell to the series on social media, albeit in cryptic, non-committal ways.

For now, Ted Lasso fans should operate under the assumption that the series has come to a close. However that doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll never see the likes of Rebecca Welton, Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), or Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) on TV ever again…

While Apple TV+ has yet to announce any official Ted Lasso spin-off, there are a number of directions the streamer could go. There could be a show about AFC Richmond under the leadership of Roy Kent, a series about Trent Crimm (James Lance) embedding himself with various other teams, a sitcom about Edwin Akufo’s (Sam Richardson) rival league, or even a dramedy about Beard and Jane’s (Phoebe Walsh) life as newlyweds.

However there is a tantalizing clue about a possible new series in the Ted Lasso Season 3 finale. We see Keeley pitch Rebecca on a women’s team at AFC Richmond. It would be a concept that would likely center on a mostly new cast of characters, while leaving the door open for cameos from our Ted Lasso faves.

But so far, no, there has not been an official announcement about a Ted Lasso spin-off.
