Happy anniversary, South Park! On August 13, 1997, “Cartman Gets an Anal Probe” debuted on Comedy Central. Nearly 30 years later, the show is still going strong, airing over 300 episodes over 27 seasons.
In celebration of the show’s anniversary, Comedy Central is hosting a South Park marathon, with South Park Imaginationland: The Trilogy airing at 8:30 p.m. ET, followed by the pilot episode. Two new installments of Digman! will air from 10:30-11:30 p.m. ET.
You’d think that South Park’s anniversary would conclude with a new episode of the beloved animated comedy, but… nope! When does South Park return with new episodes? Here’s everything you need to know.
Nope. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this week’s hiatus was planned. In July, South Park’s season premiere was delayed due to an ongoing dispute between Paramount and Trey Parker and Matt Stone over the show’s streaming rights, and Episode 2 was also pushed back a week.
Comedy Central is celebrating “South Park Day” on August 13 by airing a marathon of fan-favorite episodes leading up to the show’s pilot episode (“Cartman Gets an Anal Probe”) at 10:00 p.m. ET. Per THR, the marathon includes interviews with Parker and Stone, behind-the-scenes footage, and rare clips.
The third episode of the new season is expected to debut Wednesday, August 20 on Comedy Central and Thursday, August 21 on Paramount+.
The current season consists of ten episodes.
