Michael Strahan‘s mysterious absence from Good Morning America continues into its second week as the former NFL player was once again replaced by a GMA correspondent on the air.

Strahan has been absent from the show since the week of June 24, but neither Stephanopolous nor Roberts have shared a reason for his continued absence. And George Stephanopolous and Robin Roberts were joined by GMA economics correspondent Rebecca Jarvis once again during Tuesday’s (July 2) broadcast.

Though a reason for his absence has not been shared, the former NFL player has been dealing with some personal family matters recently as his 19-year-old daughter was recently diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer.

Strahan’s continued absence has begun raising questions for viewers. The longtime GMA host has become a staple on the show since joining in 2016. But could this be the end of his run? Here’s what we know so far.

Though ABC has not yet shared when Strahan should be expected back on the show, there’s no need to panic.

Strahan has been known to take time off from the show to be with his family. The GMA host has previously taken days – or even weeks – off from the broadcast to support his daughter, Isabella, as she continues receiving treatment.

Decider reached out to Strahan’s reps for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.

Amid his continued absence from air, numerous reports have pointed to a 2023 interview in which Strahan candidly spoke on his plans to one day retire from television. However, he did not specify how long he expected to continue working in television. The former footballer has already forged a successful career as a sports commentator and daytime personality with a weekly appearance on Fox NFL Sundays and a previous stint on Live alongside Kelly Ripa.

“I love my life. I enjoy my life. My kids are in college. I want to be able to go to college. I want to be able to say, ‘Hey, let’s go take a trip,’ not, ‘Oh, I’ve got to get this vacation time off,'” he said. “I want a life where there’s some freedom at some point.”

“I guarantee you this: I’ll be off TV before a lot of people [are] sick of seeing me on TV,” Strahan added.

Good Morning America airs weekdays at 7/6c on ABC.
