It seems like just yesterday that Finn Wolfhard was a dorky middle schooler in Stranger Things, but now the 22-year-old is all grown up and has directed a movie of his own, Hell of a Summer, opening in theaters this weekend.

This new horror comedy—which was co-directed by Wolfhard and fellow twenty-something Billy Bryk—follows a group of camp counselors who are preparing for the arrival of their campers. But someone else shows up before the kids: a masked killer who starts brutally murdering the staff.

In addition to Wolfhard and Bryk, the Hell of a Summer cast includes Fred Hechinger, Abby Quinn, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Pardis Saremi, Rosebud Baker, and Adam Pally. The movie first premiered at Toronto Film Festival back in 2023, and now the movie is finally coming to theaters for audiences to see. Let’s go Mike Wheeler!

Hell of a Summer will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. in theaters on Friday, April 4. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Hell of a Summer is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.

Hell of a Summer is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Neon release, and most Neon movies stream on Hulu, not Netflix, thanks to the Neon and Hulu output deal. Hell of a Summer will be available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime after the movie is released on digital, but it will not be available to stream for free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is not a Prime original.

If you want to watch the Hell of a Summer movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Hulu.

Unless the final stage of the Disney+ and Hulu merger finally happens, you’ll likely see Hell of a Summer streaming on Hulu sometime in the next six months. Another Neon movie, Anora, began streaming on Hulu about five months after it opened in theaters. If Hell of a Summer follows a similar release pattern, you may see Hell of a Summer on Hulu around September 2025. On the other hand, another Neon release, It Lives Inside, began streaming on Hulu just three months after opening in theaters—so it’s not a hard and fast rule.

This is all speculation. If you want to watch Hell of a Summer right away, you can catch the movie in theaters.
