It’s not a bird, nor a plane, nor Superman flying into theaters this weekend—it’s Dog Man, aka the new animated movie about yet another dog who is also a cop. Those Paw Patrol pups better watch their back.
Written and directed by Peter Hastings, the Dog Man movie is based on the children’s graphic novel series of the same name, created by Dav Pilkey. It’s also, technically, a spin-off of the 2017 Captain Underpants movie, aka Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, which is also based on a children’s series by Pilkey. At least this dog wears pants!
Hastings himself stars as the voice of Dog Man, a part-dog, part-man creature created when an injured police chief gets a life-saving medical treatment to become fused to his dog. And no, this is not a horror movie. Other voice actors in the Dog Man cast include Pete Davidson, Lil Rel Howery, Isla Fisher, Poppy Liu, Stephen Root, Billy Boyd and Ricky Gervais.
Dog Man is a great way to keep your kids quiet for 90 minutes, so here’s what you need to know about where to watch the Dog Man movie and when to expect to see the Dog Man movie streaming on Netflix and Peacock.
For now, the Dog Man movie will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. on Friday, January 31. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Dog Man is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Dog Man is not streaming on Disney+, and will not be on Disney+ any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Universal Pictures release and not a Disney movie. Not every animated movie is a Disney movie! Almost all Universal movies go to the NBCUniversal streaming platform, Peacock. If you want to watch the Dog Man movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Peacock.

Dog Man is not yet streaming on Peacock. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Dog Man streaming on Peacock eventually, but we’re not sure when. Another Universal release, Speak No Evil, began streaming on Peacock on December 6, which was about three months after the movie opened in theaters, and about two months after the film released on digital.
If Dog Man follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie on digital by March 2025, and streaming on Peacock around late April or early May 2025.
Dog Man is not streaming on Netflix right now, but will likely stream on Netflix after four months after it streams on Peacock, as part of Universal’s deal with Netflix that sends Universal animated movies to Netflix for a limited period. If our prediction for the Peacock release of Dog Man is correct, then you might see Dog Man streaming on Netflix around late August or early September 2025.
This is all speculation. If you want to watch the Dog Man movie right away, you can catch the movie in theaters.
