Inspiration teacher stories will never go out of style, as proved by the upcoming Jared Harris movie, Brave the Dark, opening in theaters this weekend.

Directed by Damian Harris (who is Jared Harris’s brother)—and with a screenplay written by Damian Harris, Dale G. Bradley, Lynn Robertson-Hay, Nathaniel Deen, and John P. Spencer—Brave the Dark tells the true story of Stan Deen. Deen (played by Jared Harris) was a small-town high school teacher in Pennsylvania in the 1980s, who inspired many of his students to break out of their shell by acting in the school plays. The movie focuses on Deen’s relationship with one student in particular: Nate (played by Nicholas Hamilton), a homeless teen living in his car.

Also starring Jamie Harris (it’s a true Harris family affair!), Brave the Dark is sure to tug on your heartstrings and get those waterworks flowing. Here’s everything you need to know about where to watch the Brave the Dark movie, and when we expect to see the Brave the Dark movie digital release.

Brave the Dark is not streaming on Netflix or Prime Video right now. While it’s possible Brave the Dark may stream on Netflix someday, it won’t be until after the theatrical run and digital release of the movie.Brave the Dark is not a Netflix original—it’s a small, independent film being distributed by Angel Studios. So far, since the studio’s launch in 2021, none of Angel Studios movies have gone on to stream on Netflix. Never say never, but it’s unlikely you’ll see Brave the Dark streaming on Netflix anytime soon.

You will be able to purchase Brave the Dark on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream Brave the Dark on Prime Video free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is not a Prime original movie. If you want to watch Brave the Dark movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms.

The Brave the Dark movie digital release date has not yet been announced. However, we can make an educated guess as to when we might see Brave the Dark on video-on-demand, based on the digital release of previous films from this studio, Angel Studios.

Another Angel Studios movie, Cabrini, was released in theaters on March 8, and was released on digital platforms on June 25—aka, about three-and-a-half months after opening in theaters. If Brave the Dark follows a similar pattern, you might see the movie on video-on-demand in about three-and-a-half months, around May 2025.
